After a miserable winter and a freezing cold March, it will come as no surprise that not many Brits will be considering a ‘Staycation’ this summer. With the weather in the UK disappointing last year as well, who wants to risk a wash-out on our own shores?
No we’ll all be looking for guaranteed weather whatever our preference and of course something that meets our budget.
With times still hard for many, cheap all inclusive holidays in the Mediterranean sounds just the job. An all inclusive holiday in one of the many Mediterranean resorts may be even more tempting. After all once the holiday is booked and paid for you don’t have to worry about additional expenses as your food, drink and entertainment are sorted in one go.
But it has to be the guaranteed sunshine that is one of the biggest pulls. There are great resorts on the mainland coasts along the northern and eastern edges of the Mediterranean and of course on the islands. Just remember that North Africa also borders the Mediterranean if you are looking for even hotter temperatures and completely different cultures.
North versus south
Choose the Spanish Costa del Sol for great cheap holidays in some of the best known Spanish resorts. Whilst they may be popular and crowded, remember the reasons for this are the great beaches, the sunshine and the food. Why not try it for yourself at glitzy Marbella or head on round the coast to the Costa Blanca to Benidorm? Quite different resorts but both offer golden sands and sunshine and you don’t have to play a caricature like Madge to fit in!
Or perhaps you fancy the North African coast? Try Hammemet in Tunisia aka Tunisia’s Saint Tropez. Great beaches and guaranteed sunshine will win you over every time.
Mainland versus island
Turkey’s turquoise coast offers up Patara for your enjoyment. It’s no sacrifice to indulge yourself on this long stretch of sandy beach (19 km). Even better, it’s an unspoilt National Park and is also home to nesting loggerhead turtles.
On the sun-kissed island of Cyprus head to Nissi Beach at Ayia Napa for white sands and clear, blue water. There’s even a wooden walkway to strut your stuff or lounge on if you don’t like the sand between your toes. Treating yourself to any type of Cyprus holidays sounds like a good idea to us.
Cheap holidays in the Mediterranean win every time!
